Boat-billed HeronBoat-billed Heron,
La Tovara National Park

San Blas, Mexico is known by birding enthusiasts for its concentration of birds that migrate from the north for the winter. We have more than 300 species of migrant and resident birds within 15 miles of San Blas.

Habitat

Mangrove estuaries, springs, fresh water rivers and tropical jungle create a great biodiversity where birds and other creatures move from one place to another looking for food. The best time for birding is from the 20th of November to the 20th of April.

Guide

Manuel the “Jungle Man” has over 35 years of guiding experience in San Blas, and has seen over 600 species of birds. He can identify birds with English, Spanish and Latin names, and has a vast knowledge of the symbiotic relationships in the surrounding habitat. He also has a unique awareness of the many valuable medicinal plants. An avid reader, Manuel has a deep understanding of the history of Mexico, Nayarit, and San Blas.
